- Line 1 初九Bottom line (1st) · Yang悔亡，喪馬勿逐，自復；見惡人無咎。Regret vanishes; if you lose your horse, do not chase it—it will return on its own. Meeting evil people: no fault.
- Line 2 九二2nd line · Yang遇主于巷，無咎。Meeting the lord in a narrow lane: no fault.
- Line 3 六三3rd line · Yin見輿曳，其牛𧤊，其人天且劓，無初有終。One sees the cart dragged back, the ox held back, the man's head shaved and nose cut off; no beginning, but an end.
- Line 4 九四4th line · Yang睽孤，遇元夫，交孚，厲無咎。Isolated in opposition, he meets a worthy man; they trust each other; danger, but no fault.
- Line 5 六五5th line · Yin悔亡，厥宗噬膚，往何咎。Regret vanishes; his kinsman bites through the skin (understands deeply); what fault in going on?
- Line 6 上九Top line (6th) · Yang睽孤， 見豕負涂，載鬼一車， 先張之弧，後說之弧，匪寇婚媾，往遇雨則吉。Isolated in opposition, he sees a pig covered with mud, a cart full of ghosts; first he bends his bow, later he sets it down; not a robber but a suitor; going on and meeting rain brings good fortune.
