- Line 1 初九Bottom line (1st) · Yang舍爾靈龜，觀我朵頤，凶。You let your magic tortoise go and watch me with drooping jaw: misfortune.
- Line 2 六二2nd line · Yin顛頤，拂經，于丘頤，征凶。Turning to receive nourishment upside down, against the norm; seeking nourishment from the hill: going brings misfortune.
- Line 3 六三3rd line · Yin拂頤，貞凶，十年勿用，無攸利。Violating the way of nourishment: steadfastness brings misfortune. For ten years do not act; nothing is favorable.
- Line 4 六四4th line · Yin顛頤吉，虎視眈眈，其欲逐逐，無咎。Receiving nourishment upside down: good fortune. Eyes glaring like a tiger, desires pursued without cease: no fault.
- Line 5 六五5th line · Yin拂經，居貞吉，不可涉大川。Against the norm; remaining steadfast brings good fortune; one must not cross the great river.
- Line 6 上九Top line (6th) · Yang由頤，厲吉，利涉大川。All depend on him for nourishment; awareness of danger brings good fortune; it is beneficial to cross the great river.
